india winBangladesh, Friday, February 28 – One of the high-octane matches of the Asia Cup is going on between India and Sri Lanka on Friday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah. Angelo Mathews, the skipper of Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to field first. His decision appeared a tad fruitful for his team as India failed to put an impressive show with the bat at the beginning. The opener Rohit Sharma was out at the score of 13 runs when Sachithra Senanayake trapped him in an excellent bowling spell.

However, soon after his early departure during the opening of the match, Shikhar Dhawan and Indian skipper Virat Kohli provided a little stability to the team. Dhawan hit half century in the 23rd over. But the partnership for 3rd wicket was broken by Ajantha Mendis when he made Kohli to leave the crease when he was batting at 48 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane tried to accompany Dhawan for more than a few overs and scored 22 runs before throwing his wicket to 29 year old Sachithra Senanayake. India were 175/3 in 35.1 overs, but at soon as they touched the mark of 200 runs, Dhawan lost his wicket and fell 6 runs short of hitting another century. He played mesmerizing innings of 94 runs before succumbing to Ajanta Mendis.

Dinesh Kartik, Stuart Binny, Bhubhneshwar Kumar and Ambati Rayadu couldn’t do much and did not succeed in proving their selection worth for the Indian team, though being capable of playing good shots at the time of need. Binny and Kumar were out at zero. Ravindra Jadeja made 22 runs, hitting a straight six during his short innings. Mohammed Shami (14 runs of 7 balls) was good with bat today as he struck astounding couple of sixes in the over bowled by Mendis, who became the highest wicket taker for his team as he pocketed 4 wickets. Sachithra Senanayake got 3 wickets. On the whole, India put a fighting total of 264 runs after the loss of 9 wickets. Sri Lanka are still to bat.
